Directions by foot from Berkhamsted Station…
Whilst taxis are definitely available at the Station (be warned there is no Uber!) – there is a lovely 5 km stroll from the station that will leave you eagerly awaiting your lunch or dinner and, with a slightly shorter route back, you CAN even have that extra glass or dessert!
When you leave the station you head out under the railway bridge. Head straight up Brownlow Road (the remains of Berkhamsted Castle will be on the right) and then continue on to Castle Hill towards Berkhamsted Cricket Club. Take the footpath that will lead you down the side of the cricket pitch and up towards Well Farm (0.8km). At Well Farm take the right fork, follow this for 0.2km and then bear left (as it approaches the main road (New Road)). A further 0.2km the footpath has a ‘junction’ take the left footpath alongside Berkhamsted Golf Course.
A 1km further on you will take a sharp right and head through the Golf Course and keep on the footpath for another 10minutes (1km) before heading down a small footpath between two houses which leads you on to Frithsden copse – a right turn as you come on to Frithsden Copse and then left as the road goes round to the right – almost there!
Go straight down the footpath for 500 metres and as you come out of the beautiful National Trust land the pub will be oh… right there!
Be warned it can be muddy if wet so please dress appropriately if you do fancy the walk. As for the return – see the link on the right for the complete route or ask one of our great team to sort a cab out!

Operating until 7pm on weekdays and until 4pm on weekends, you can be picked up from a host of locations and brought to our door. And it costs just £2 per person, per one-way trip.
Now you can just imagine what help that would be to both our neighbours and users of the fabulous National Trust Ashridge Estate if we were able to reduce the cars coming into Frithsden – even by just a few each day. You can book HertsLynx via an App, website or by telephone.

Directions by car…
Take the B440 (used to be A4146) from Hemel Hempstead towards Leighton Buzzard. Continue for about 2 miles until you reach Water End and take the second turning on the left after the “Red Lion” towards Nettleden and Frithsden. After 1 mile turn left at the T-junction and then take the next right after 1/4 mile. The pub is 100 yards down the lane on the right-hand side.
From Berkhamsted High Street, turn into Lower Kings Road towards the station. Turn left under the bridge, go over the mini roundabout and bear right around the castle. Turn left at the T-junction and then left at the top of the hill. After about 1 mile take the right-hand turn into Frithsden. The pub is 1 mile down on the left.
We just ask that if you have to park on the road, you park with consideration for other road users and our neighbours.
If you have any accessibility issues please see our note below, but we are very pleased to say that, apart from a small entrance ‘step’ there are no steps in the pub itself.
