good-to-go

We love those
Winter days enjoying a glass of red or a local ale…

letting the afternoon slide by with great conversation and much laughter, whilst the fire is roaring.

Welcome to the Alford Arms

Frithsden! Where the heck is Frithsden? Find Frithsden and you’ll find the award-winning Alford Arms: a pubby gem nestling in a secluded wooded valley. The great Ashridge Forest lies bustling on its doorstep and the broad sweep of the Chiltern Hills is its backdrop. Ramblers drop wearily out of the woods and swear they have chanced upon Brigadoon while locals and regulars swap a knowing glance.

Our food menu changes every two weeks, making use of the very best of seasonal local produce. As everything is cooked fresh we can cater for intolerances and allergens without batting an eyelid or offering just dust to eat!

The Alford wine list offers every kind of grape and price point to suit tastes and budgets, and all of the wines we stock are ‘old world’ – just to help keep our wine miles down. Our spirit range rivals many a city bar – with over 20 gins to choose from! Our ales are perfectly kept and will more than likely be from local breweries including Tring, Rebellion, and Chiltern. They compliment the IPA and lager from Camden Town.

You can book a table on the heated terrace or within the restaurant. But do remember we ALWAYS keep our bar tables free for walk-ins and your four-legged family member is very welcome in the bar and on the terrace.

We have been the stewards of this beloved watering hole for nearly 25 years – and not one day is the same as the one that has gone before. Find The Alford Arms and you’ll never utter the term ‘gastro-pub’ ever again.

Frithsden has a bus service…

Yes, this will come as a shock to many! The lovely hamlet of Frithsden, the one that has only recently been able to access Wifi, now has an on-demand bus service!

The HertsLynx Dacorum service covers Berkhamsted, Hemel and many surrounding villages. The service runs until 7pm on weekdays and 4pm on the weekends. Now not only are buses great for the environment but if we could remove a few cars to make the trip then that would be great for the Ashridge National Park and our neighbours.
